Surfactants – or Surface-Active Agents – are a critical component in a vast range of cleaning products. Without surfactants, soap and water wouldn’t mix, the one would simply roll off the other, preventing the soap from doing its job. Surfactants allow the essential raw detergent material to mix with water, by reducing the water’s surface tension. This aids the cleaning agent to remove dirt from the surface to which the product is being applied.
These surfaces include the skin in the case of soaps and body washes as well as shampoos and hair conditioners, fabrics in the case of washing liquids and powders and hard surfaces such as kitchen counters, pots and dishes and other household and industrial surfaces.
Surfactants also have a number of other applications including as an additive to car engine lubricants. Adding surfactants to lubricants prevents particles from adhering to the engine, ensuring that it remains clean and in working order and does not clog with grease, dirt and other contaminants.
Surfactants also exist naturally. The human body produces its own surfactant, for example in the lungs. Pulmonary surfactants increase lung capacity and efficiency and without them our breathing would be severely compromised.
Taking a leaf from nature, Ecwamix has created a range of surfactants for all applications in various highly concentrated formats from paste to pourable liquid, both anionic and non-ionic in formulation. Our range includes body washes and gels, hair shampoos and conditioners, fabric conditioners, disinfectants and hand sanitizers, some already perfumed. All are manufactured to the highest industry standards and are packaged in a range of sizes and volumes.
